DURATION: Semester-long behind-the-scene project (due to Covid)
PRODUCT: A pendant lamp inspired by a photo of glass igloo hotels located in Finland, which made me think of the Covid-19 pandemic given the "socially distant" spacing between the hotels and the shelter-like qualities of an igloo.
PURPOSE: Produce light while also making a statement in a room.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Tool Safety & Application
Order of Operations
Photo Documentation
Polystyrene Modeling
The Challenge:
Create a perfectly-crafted pendant lamp to gain familiarity with shop tools and machine processes in tandem with the design process. This includes the Band Saw, Jointer, Planer, Compound Miter Saw, Table saw, Vacuum Former, Router Table as well as various other hand-held tools.

The Solution:
A pandemic-inspired lamp design "Igloo" that represents shelter and warmth from within when outer forces make the world feel cold.

Takeaways:
My main takeaways from this semester-long project were patience and time management. While I had a tentative timeline to accomplish each milestone, it would sometimes shift due to other projects going on simultaneously. I learned how to juggle multiple commitments in the mix, schedule focus time in the shop, and managed to have my final model completed ahead of schedule.
